It Is Finished!

📖“And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, ‘Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.’” — Luke 23:46, NKJV
⭐A Final Breath That Opened Everything
The cross was public, brutal, and humiliating — yet Luke shows us it was also a place of profound conversation. Jesus wasn’t a silent victim; even as He hung between two criminals, He was still doing the work of the Father. To the people mocking Him, He offered forgiveness (Luke 23:34). To the thief beside Him, who asked to be remembered, He offered assurance rooted in His authority: “Today you will be with Me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43).
Jesus wasn’t drifting toward death; He was choosing obedience. When the sky turned black at midday and the sun stayed hidden for three hours, creation responded to the weight of sin. In that darkness, the veil of the Temple was torn down the middle (Luke 23:45) — a divine declaration that the barrier between God and humanity had been removed.
When Jesus took His final breath, He wasn’t giving up. He was completing the redemptive work Isaiah 53:5 had foretold centuries earlier. Nothing was accidental. Nothing was left undone.
⭐When We Rush Past Pain to Get to Relief
Most of us don’t like sitting with what hurts. We want the quick fix, the “skip ad” button, the part of the story where everything feels resolved. But the thief on the cross couldn’t skip the pain — and neither did Jesus.
The cross invites us into that uncomfortable space where something holy is happening, even when nothing feels clear. Jesus didn’t bypass the darkness of the sixth hour; He entered it fully. And when we find ourselves in our own dark hours, we can trust that He understands the weight we carry. Faith isn’t about outrunning pain — it’s about trusting the One who stayed until the work was finished.
⭐A Quiet Act
Sit in silence today for three minutes—one for each hour darkness covered the land. As you breathe deeply, acknowledge one “unfinished” area of your life and let the stillness hold what you haven’t had words for. Whisper, “Father, into Your hands I commit this situation,” releasing it into His care. Let His finished work become your rest.
⭐Reflection Questions
Do I feel like I have to “clean up” my life before God accepts me, or can I trust Jesus' promise that grace is available right now?
Jesus forgave his enemies while still in pain. Who is God asking me to forgive while my heart still hurts?
If the veil is truly torn, what am I still hiding from God?
What part of my story feels incomplete, and how does “It is finished” reshape my perspective?
📖“He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities.” — Isaiah 53:5, NKJV
Jesus, thank You for the conversations You had on the cross — for the grace You showed the thief and the forgiveness You offered those who hurt You. Help me sit with the weight of Your sacrifice without rushing past it. Thank You for tearing the veil and making a way for me to know the Father. Meet me in my silence and steady my heart as I rest in what You finished for me. Amen.
