Test What You Hear
Truth isn’t measured by how spiritual something sounds—it’s measured by Scripture.
📖“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” — 1 John 4:1 (NKJV)
⭐Truth Needs to Be Tested
John wrote to believers who were hearing many spiritual messages—some faithful to the truth, others misleading. Rather than accepting every message because it sounded spiritual, he urged them to weigh what they heard carefully against what God had already revealed.
His concern was protection, not suspicion. Some teachings were distorting the truth about Jesus, and John wanted believers grounded in what they had received from the beginning. Testing what we hear means measuring teaching against Scripture. God’s Word gives us a clear standard—the truth about Jesus Christ. Discernment is not fear‑driven; it is clarity—remaining anchored in truth as we abide in Christ.
⭐Why Discernment Matters Today
We live surrounded by opinions—podcasts, social media, influencers, spiritual perspectives, and advice from people we respect. Many of these messages sound sincere and helpful, yet Scripture reminds us that sincerity does not always equal truth.
Discernment teaches us to pause before accepting something as true. Instead of relying on emotion, popularity, or how a message makes us feel, we should compare what we hear with God’s Word. This practice guards our hearts and helps keep us from slowly drifting away from what is true.
Practicing discernment is not about rejecting people or assuming bad motives. It is about honoring God by holding firmly to His truth and allowing Scripture to shape what we believe and how we live.
⭐Practice Discernment
Before accepting a spiritual idea, pause and weigh it against Scripture. Ask simple, honest questions:
Does this agree with God’s Word?
Does it point me toward the truth about Jesus?
Does it encourage humility, obedience, and love?
If a message does not align with Scripture or pulls focus away from Christ, it may be something to let go rather than receive. Discernment is not about criticism—it is about faithfulness. Choosing truth protects your heart and keeps you rooted in what God has already made clear.
